Overclocking Worklog #26: ProOC Championship 2016 – Round 3 Stage 1 and Stage 2

The bench session of tonight was all about ProOC. We are now in the third round and I was looking at stages one and two. For these two stages I’ve used a Broadwell-E CPU and an X99 refresh motherboard.
The hardware I used was :
  • Motherboard: ASUS Republic of Gamers Rampage V Edition 10
  • Memory: HyperX HX434C16 ENG Special
  • Processor: Intel Core i7 6960X
  • Power Supply: Corsair AX1500i Elite edition (no OCP)
  • TIM: T-Grizzly Kryonaut
  • Pot: Der8auer BEAST
  • Fans: Cooler Master Jetflow fans
The session tonight was … how to say … I was happy with it, but I wasn’t entirely happy with it if that makes any sense? I wasn’t happy because the CPU I have isn’t a magic chip that can do 5.1 GHz easy at 1.55V unfortunately. So it’s a pretty average BDW-E and it was able to run 5 GHz without problems and I think there might be more in it, but as much as their might not be more in it. It still remains to be proven – I need more time.

My experience on Broadwell-E

I’m still really sketchy with Broadwell-E right now and it’s really going to be a process of learning over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully fast enough for me to get some more serious scores done before it’s too late. I did set some new personal bests, but the only reason being that it was the first time I ran Geekbench multi on a 10 core chip, so yeah, not so much Yay! there.

Coming up next

Coming up on Thursday (today, well… tonight) I will be continuing on this ProOC Championship live overclocking program. There is one submission windows coming up this weekend so I do need to get some scores ready for it on Cinebench R11.5 and I need also some results on Geekbench too. Since I’m going to have a little bit of a hectic week at work next week, I want to get as much as possible done early.
Other than that, we’ve got also now the MSI Godlike OC Season 2 coming up. The first submission window is already open. I will be doing some live overclocking for that one as well – possibly on the weekend or on Tuesday.
