Overclocking Worklog #30: MSI OC Godlike Season 2 – SuperPi 32M stage

Tonight’s session was all about the new competition from MSI (which I talked a little bit about earlier already), the MSI Godlike OC Season 2 Extreme 2D. The focus for this session was on the SuperPi 32M stage.

The hardware I used:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7 6700k
  • Memory: G.Skill TridentZ 3600C16
  • Storage: Intel 40G SSD
  • Motherboard: MSI Z170A XPOWER Gaming Titanium
  • Fans: Cooler Master jetFlo 120
  • Power Supply: Corsair ELITE AX1500i
  • TIM: Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut

The limitations

The limitations are that you have to use MSI motherboard, you have to run your CPU at 5G and you have to be in the top 3 leagues at HWBOT to be able to take part. (Elite, Extreme or Apprentice).
How the session went

All in all, I think that to be honest, I struggled a little bit at trying to get my memory timings as high and as tight as I wanted them to be. I need to just bear in mind that this is the big board (the X99 board) and that it just can’t be compared to the likes of a Mini-ITX board for example like the Impact.
So if I take that into consideration, I’m overall quite happy with what I managed to do tonight. I did manage to break the 6min barrier, but I’m still 6 seconds away from the current best score posted and 6 seconds …. it’s going to be tough.
What I think I might have to do is to be getting a little board to have any hopes of being competitive in this competition.
